                Biography:

Gregory Borton is a young composer from Hamilton, Ontario, whose gift of composition will soon be heard and appreciated by music lovers everywhere.

Gregory is a student at Glendale School of the Arts. He started piano lessons at age 4 but, much to the dismay of his teacher, he was more interested in rearranging the exercises than following them. His subsequent compositions were light and simple, yet smart and enjoyable. He soon immersed himself in classical scores, and his career as a composer began.

Beginning with developing pieces for trios and chamber groups, by the age of 15 Gregory composed his first symphony. He has been building his catalogue since then, adding concertos and other orchestral and chamber works. A number of Gregory’s early pieces have been performed in concerts and recitals.

He has performed as a trombonist with the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band. At age 16, Gregory’s Sinfonia Fantasia was performed by the National Academy Orchestra, under the baton of Boris Brott. The show took place at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, in front of a sold-out audience who responded to the sinfonia’s final chord with a standing ovation.

Gregory is of the Métis Nation of Ontario (Abenaki).
